Florida Center for Public Management Joins the Askew School

The Askew School is pleased to announce that on July 1, 2006, the Florida Center for Public Management, and its nationally recognized management program (Certified Public Manager) joined the Askew School of Public Administration and Policy.

The Florida Center for Public Management's (FCPM) mission for over 25 years has been to effect positive change in the public sector by training leaders, improving public management, and providing organizational development expertise to state and local government in Florida. FCPM accomplishes this mission through management consulting and training, working in partnership with state and local agencies to achieve the best results for the citizens of Florida.

The Florida Center for Public Management efforts includes the Florida Certified Public Manager (CPM) program, which is designed to train public managers to meet the challenges of a changing world. CPM is a nationally-recognized, comprehensive training and development program for public sector managers at all levels of state and local governments. The Florida CPM program is accredited by the National CPM Consortium, and is part of a concerted effort to improve public management through professional certification.

During 32 days of training, participants are exposed to practical management concepts and techniques for improving their own performance and their agency’s effectiveness. Graduates are awarded the Certified Public Manager designation after meeting the instructional requirements and demonstrating their competence through applied projects and exams. The CPM designation is a professional credential, not an academic one. The vision of the CPM program is to create reflective practitioners who apply advanced managerial techniques to real-world problems, and to foster learning organizations that use new knowledge to improve the way they govern.
