Winner of 2006 Marshall E. Dimock Award
Danny L. Balfour, (Ph.D. 1990) Professor and Director of the School of Public and Nonprofit Administration at Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, MI, and his coauthors, Guy Adams (U. of Missouri) and George Reed (Army War College), have been named the winners of the 2006 Marshall E. Dimock Award, presented for the best lead article in Public Administration Review (PAR) - the premier journal of public administration.
Their article, "Abu Ghraib, Administrative Evil, and Moral Inversion: The Value of 'Putting Cruelty First'" was published in the September 2006 issue of PAR. A quote from the article includes: "Before and surrounding overt acts of evil, there are many more and much less obviously evil organizational activities that lead to and support the worst forms of human behavior." Balfour presented this paper at the Sherwood Symposium at FSU in November, 2005.
The award will be presented at the national conference of the American Society for Public Administration on March 26, 2007 in Washington, DC.
