Robert J. Eger III joined the Reubin O’D. Askew School of
Public Administration and Policy at Florida State University as an
Associate Professor in Fall 2007. His teaching interests are in the
areas of public financial management, government and nonprofit accounting,
applied quantitative analysis, taxation, and policy analysis. His
research incorporates an array of public financial institutions including
public authorities, municipal government boards, county governments,
transit agencies, and state transportation departments. His pursuit
of the development and application of accounting, budgeting, and finance
principles to public entities has rewarded him with opportunities
to work with an assortment of organizations including the development
of two new cities, the City of Chattahoochee Hill County, GA and the
City of South Fulton, GA. Dr. Eger has developed and completed financial
management projects for the City of Sandy Springs, GA, City of College
Park, GA, Atlanta Public Schools, Gwinnett County, GA, Fulton County,
GA, Georgia Department of Human Resources, Georgia Public Health Department,
County of Milwaukee, WI, Milwaukee Public Museum, Milwaukee Metropolitan
Sewerage District, , Georgia Department of Transportation, Kentucky
Transportation Cabinet, Kentucky Transportation Center, Council of
State Governments, and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Dr. Eger has published on topics that include defense spending, public
health financing, financing and accounting in government infrastructure,
outsourcing in government, tax strategies and complexities, the generational
differences and perceptions of municipal board members, tax evasion
and auditing activity, and managing intergovernmental revenues. Dr.
Eger’s commentaries on government accounting and financial structures
have appeared in the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times newspapers
